The MOU stipulates that members of ICSI can progress to membership of CGI by successfully completing the educational requirements for membership. Governance Institute of Australia, the Australian division of CGI, offers pathways to two chartered designations, Chartered Secretary or Chartered Governance Professional. The following subjects must be successfully completed in each case:

Chartered Secretary:

• Applied Corporate Law
• Corporate Governance

Chartered Governance Professional

• Applied Corporate Law
• Corporate Governance
• Enterprise Risk Management

To progress to membership of CGI, you must first provide evidence of current membership of ICSI. Details of the verification process are on the ICSI website. Once Governance Institute of Australia has received confirmation of your membership from ICSI, you can proceed with an application to study with us by completing the ICSI application form and sending it to education@governanceinstitute.com.au.

Please note: Unless you are an Australian citizen, New Zealand Citizen, a permanent resident of Australia, or have a permanent Australian humanitarian visa, you can only study with us remotely (outside Australia), via our Learning Management System (LMS). We do not provide support for visa applications to enter Australia.

Enrolment in a subject entitles you to access the LMS through which the subject is delivered. Learning materials and activities, and assessment requirements are located in the LMS and made available to students two weeks prior to the start of each semester. We highly recommend you study just one subject per semester, and in the order listed.

What happens next?

Once you have completed the required subjects for your chosen pathway to a Chartered designation, you will need to apply for membership of CGI through Governance Institute.
